Cycle 2 Is Skyping Again This Year!!!!
Our first skype call of the year was with a class from Kansas in the United States. As you can imagine our class was so excited to do a skype call to discuss our school, our community, our pets etc. We were quite amazed with the numbers of students in their school compared to ours. We also discussed our results from a project that both of our classes did called "The Oreo Cookie Stacking Project. This was a project where the students attempted to stack oreo cookies as high as they could without letting them fall. They had a ball with this project, and they also got to eat a cookie or two after the project!!!! Check out our photos.

Quackers Is On His Way Again!
Quackers, our class mascot, is on his way for a new adventure. He will be visiting a school in Christchurch, New Zealand. He has already visited New Zealand, but he enjoyed himself so much that he wanted to go back to another school. Many thanks to Vanessa Ireland, the classroom teacher, and her class for accepting Quackers in their classroom. Have a great trip Quackers!

We have also found a class in Christchurch, New Zealand who is willing to take Quackers, our classroom mascot, has a host in their school. He will be "flying" out early next week on his new adventure. We are also hoping to do a few skype calls with different classes from around the world. It is going to be a great year!

Tomatosphere Project
The Cycle 2 took on a special project this month - the Tomatopshere Project.
The primary objective of this project was to determine whether tomato seeds could grow on the planet Mars or not. We had 2 sets of seeds, a control group and seeds that had been influenced by an element related to space travel. The students did not know a head of time which seeds belonged to which category. After 5 days the first seeds began to germinate. On the last date of the project one group had 47 seeds that germinated out of 53. The second group had 40 seeds that grew out of 54 seeds. The students then spectulated that the second group were the seeds that had been influenced by an element related to space travel. Once we submintted the results, the project coordinator did inform us that our hypotheses had been correct. The seeds that had less germination results were the "Mars" seeds. So...perhaps tomatoes may be
planted on Mars in the near future????
The Cycle 2 class had the wonderful opportunity of baking with the senoirs. Check out our smilebox on this fun filled afternoon.

Math Consultant Visits Our Class
The Cycle 2 students were quite excited to see our school board's math consultant, Ann Guilbeault, visit the class. She prepared a math game on probability for them and they really enjoyed it. It was great having the math consultant visit our school. This enables teachers to get some new, fresh ideas, as well as getting help with regards to evaluations, ideas etc.
